Corpus Callosum deformation analysis in Multiple Sclerosis

چکیده
Abstract In this paper, we propose a new methodology for analyzing the deformations of the Corpus Callosum (CC) volume associated to Multiple Sclerosis (MS) lesion. We propose an approach for 3D segmentation of the volume of interest based on deformable models method. The measures are carried from the segmented brain volume obtained from MR and the deformation of the geometric shape is quantified. The deformations of the two ends as well as the thickness of the CC were retained to validate the method. The results allow evaluating the rate of deformation of the CC among patients from MRI sequences of patients with different level from handicap using the criterion established in this paper.

Myelin enhancement of Multiple sclerosis model with gold nanoparticles into the corpus callosum
Objective(s): With no substantial cost, we injected L-arginine into the rat’s corpus callosum (CC) to create animal model of multiple sclerosis (MS) and investigated the pre-injection effect of gold nanoparticles (GNPs). Materials and Methods: Adult male Wistar rat (250-300 g) was surgically cannulated at the CC, and after recovery it was injected L-arginine (3-200 µg/rat, intra-CC) once ...

Background: Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a neurodegenerative disease of central nervous system. Different approaches have been developed to study MS progression and cognitive dysfunction as the major symptom of the disease. The current study compared Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and Corpus Callosum Index (CCI) for the early evaluation of cognitive dysfunction in MS patients. Objectives: T...
متن کاملProtective effects of erythropoietin against cuprizone-induced oxidative stress and demyelination in the mouse corpus callosum
Objective(s): Increasing evidence in both experimental and clinical studies suggests that oxidative stress plays a major role in the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis. The aim of the present work is to investigate the protective effects of erythropoietin against cuprizone-induced oxidative stress. Materials and Methods: Adult male C57BL/6J mice were fed a chow containing 0.2 % cuprizone for 6 ...
متن کاملEffect of Multiple Intraperitoneal Injections of Human Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells on Cuprizone Model of Multiple Sclerosis
Background: Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) elicit neuroprotective effects, and their repair ability has been investigated in different experimental models. We aimed to investigate the effect of multiple i.p. BM-MSCs injections in the cuprizone model of multiple sclerosis in mice. Methods: Adult male C57BL/6 mice (n = 40) were fed a regular diet or a diet containing cuprizone (0.2%...
متن کاملMyelin Protection by Ursolic Acid in Cuprizone-Induced Demyelination in Mice
Neuronal survival in multiple sclerosis (MS) and other demyelinating diseases depends on the preservation of myelin and remyelination of axons. Myelin protection is the main purpose to decrease myelin damage in the central nervous system (CNS). Ursolic acid (UA) as a natural product in apple is suggested to protect neural cells. This study is the first to demonstrate an effect for UA on CNS mye...
